AIMS Program
The ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) program, formally known as Malaysia-Indonesia-Thailand (M-I-T) Student Mobility Pilot Project, aims to create a vibrant student mobility program for citizens of all SEAMEO member countries. Following the success of the pilot project, it is now being turned into a fully-fledged ASEAN program. Additional Asian nations are now invited to join and collectively develop the AIMS program.
In 2016, Republic of Korea joined the program. As of now, AIMS program has four partner universities in Korea including Kangwon National University (KNU).
KNU, one of the major national universities in Korea, is currently in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) of Malaysia, BINUS University of Indonesia,
Kasetsart University of Thailand, and
Foreign Trade University of Vietnam.

PURPOSE
KNU's AIMS program aims to cultivate global talents who can understand diverse cultures, histories, and societies of the three participating countries, as well as expertise in economic and business environment conditions in each country

to provide exchange students with learning opportunities not only for different business practices but also for different cultures

to provide participating opportunities in business practices and cultural activities, and thus

to incubate a skilled global workforce with mutual cross-cultural understanding to meet increasing global business market resource needs among Korea and ASEAN member countries.

KEY FEATURES of KNU AIMS
This program is a student exchange program focusing on the area of International Business.
Specifically, this program aims to cultivate global talents who can understand diverse cultures, histories, and societies of the three participating countries, as well as expertise in economic and business environment conditions in each country.

Duration of Study : One semester
-
Quota of Exchange students : 5 students from UiTM (and 5 students from BINUS), and 5 students from KNU to UiTM (and 5 students to BINUS), each semester. Total maximum 20 inbound students to KNU and 20 outbound students from KNU each year.

Language : All courses for students participating in the program are conducted in English.

Funding : Home university is responsible for financially supporting its students' international travel, international health insurance as well as accommodation and miscellaneous expenses. Host university waives tuition and associated fees, provides basic medical provision, and helps locate suitable accommodation (student dormitory).

Selection Criteria for Students participating in this program : Home university must ensure the English proficiency of participating students.

1) Students select cultural items to export and import

4) When inbound students return to their home university,
the sales will be executed with KNU outbound students.

Collaboration with Global Trade Experts incubating Program (GTEP)
Global Trade Experts incubating Program
GTEP has been initiated and funded by the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and operated by Korean International Trade Association. Out of 400 universities in Korea, 24 of them have been selected for this program. Each selected university has its own target countries for trade. KNU GTEP has been assigned to focus on Southeast Asian trade market.
In GTEP, students cooperate with local companies and search for new buyers from target countries. During the process, market research, branding strategy, and many other international trade performances are executed.
Examples of Joint projects between AIMS and GTEP in 2016 and 2017

Expositions (Global Trade & Investment Exposition, etc) : Both GTEP and AIMS students (In-bound & nominated out-bound students) were positioned at partner companies from Gangwon province and they develop the strategies for advertisement and sales together for the exposition.

Study tour : Customs Administration Office, etc.

Overseas Field Trip : Some of GTEP students and AIMS students (some in 2016 and all in 2017) have visited Malaysia for field trip. They visited many places related to international trade (KOTRA, MARA, embassy, etc).
In 2017, AIMS and GTEP visited UiTM, Malaysia to hold "K-Festival" which aims to promote Korean culture and products.
